„Happy Birthday René“
Der heutige Tag war wohl ein spezieller Tag, denn heute hatte ich meinen 50ten Geburtstag. Natürlich hatten wir auch heute einiges auf dem Programm. Nach dem Frühstück ging es mal wieder mitten durch Amman und weiter nach Osten. Nach etwa 50 Kilometern erreichten wir das Wüstenschloss Qasr al-Kharana und nach weiteren 15 Kilometer das Schloss Qusair Amran. Diese sind noch gut erhalten und sicher einen Abstecher wert. Diesen Weg mussten wir wieder zurück fahren, sonst wären wir dann plötzlich an der Grenze zum Irak. Später fuhren wir via Madaba zum Berg Nebo. Hier hatte man eine wirklich tolle Aussicht über das Jordanland, weit nach Israel und zum Toten Meer. Wir besuchten eine Mosaicwerkstätte und fuhren anschliessend zum tiefsten Punkt der frei zugänglichen Erdoberfläche, zum Toten Meer.  Hier ist man gerade mal 416 Meter unter der Meereshöhe. Nach dem wir unser Hotel, das Winter Valley Warwick, gefunden haben, gab es eine nette Begrüssung und Gratulationen zum Geburtstag. Hier muss wohl jemand etwas gesagt haben….. Carol und auch Fabienne von Kuoni Emmenbrücke haben da ihres dazu getan. Wir haben tolle Zimmer erhalten. Dank an Kuoni! Was natürlich nicht fehlen durfte, war ein Sonnenbad im Toten Meer. Da liegt man im Wasser ohne sich zu bewegen. Sicher ein Erlebnis, aber doch etwas zu salzig. Anschliessend ein Bad im Pool und einen guten Longdrink. Was will man mehr? Beim Nachtessen im Hotel folgte dann noch eine Überraschung. Es gab eine Geburtstagstorte!!!

Today Rene celebrated his 50th birthday. As usual we had a full program planned. After breakfast we again drove through the middle of Amman and headed east. After about 30 miles we reached the dessert castle of Qasr al-Kharan and about 8 miles on that of Qusair Amran. These are fairly well preserved and definately worth a look. We had to drive back the sameway otherwise we would have landed in Iraq. Later we drove to Mount Nebo near Madaba. Here Moses is supposed to be buried. From this mountain there are some lovely views over the Jordan Valley over to Israel and the Dead Sea. We visited a Mosaic workshop where we could watch mosaic pictures being made by hand from local stone. We reached our hotel and the lowest reachable point on the earth – the Dead Sea – late afternoon. Here we were at 1363 feet below sea level! The reception warmly greeted us and surprised Rene by wishing him a happy birthday. Little did he know that I had organised a cake for after Dinner and Fabienne from Kuoni had organised an upgrade room. We had a lovely room with a large balcony and a good view. We just had to try out the Dead Sea and it really is quite an amazing experience – it’s impossible to sink and almost impossible to stand up to get out of the water! However it’s too salty and not recommended to stay in too long so we retreated to the hotel pool and enjoyed a long drink at the pool bar.
